Acting Director of operations management at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Ahmed Al-Huwaidi said here on Sunday that the total number of flights that were registered at the Kuwait International Airport during the holiday of Eid Al-Fitr stood at 1,973, including 1,855 regular and 118 extra ones.
Al-Huwaidi told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) commenting on news reports circulated by some social media outlets over a delay in the opening of one of passenger gates, that the Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Administration for airport security, is the sole entity authorized to open and close the gates of the arrival and departure terminals through a magnetic reader system that is in the possession of security personnel with the exception of four gates which were recently leased to one of the national carriers.
He explained that those four leased gates are opened and closed by the leased airline under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior, adding that the news report that was circulated in the social media outlets concerned one of those gates which was a mistake made by one its employees when he did not open the gate on time at the arrival of the plane.
The necessary action in this regard was taken, he said.
He pointed out that the Kuwait International Airport offers all the facilities and services necessary for the smooth flow of arriving and departing passengers.
