H.E. Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Vice Chairman of the National Media Authority

The Dubai Press Club, in collaboration with the National Media Authority (NMA), hosted a specialised workshop titled ‘The UAE’s Media Content Standards’ as part of its ongoing Media Workshops series. The session was presented by Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Vice Chairman of the National Media Authority, and attended by Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council, Maryam Al Mulla, Director of Dubai Press Club, alongside media executives, content creators, and industry professionals.

Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council and President of the Dubai Press Club, commended the National Media Authority’s efforts to modernise the UAE’s legislative and regulatory framework for the media sector.

She said these reforms are helping to create an advanced media environment that encourages innovation and creativity while strengthening the UAE’s position as a leading regional and global media hub.

Al Marri reaffirmed the Dubai Press Club’s commitment to providing specialised platforms that enhance awareness of national media legislation and policies, enabling media professionals to keep pace with rapid developments across the local and international media landscape.

She noted that the workshop highlights the importance of promoting a shared understanding of the UAE’s media content standards, supporting the production of responsible, professional content that reflects Emirati values and national identity while reinforcing the country’s leadership in building a balanced, influential, and future-focused media sector.

During the session, Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi outlined the legislative framework governing the UAE’s media industry, focusing on the Media Regulation Law and its executive regulations approved in 2023. He described the legislation as a modern framework designed to keep pace with the evolving media landscape while creating a flexible, investment-friendly environment that supports high-quality local content aligned with national values and internationally recognised professional standards.

Al Shehhi stressed that responsible media content is essential to strengthening public trust and maintaining a credible and professional media environment. He explained that the UAE’s media standards are intended to guide and support creativity rather than restrict it, ensuring content is produced within a framework that protects national identity, safeguards society, and enhances the country’s global reputation.

The workshop also reviewed the key components of the UAE’s updated media ecosystem, including the Media Regulation Law, executive regulations, Cabinet resolutions governing administrative violations and penalties, media service fees, and regulatory decisions covering emerging sectors such as digital media, electronic gaming, artificial intelligence, and on-demand streaming services.

Maryam Al Mulla thanked Al Shehhi for his comprehensive overview of the UAE’s media legislation, regulatory framework, and content standards governing media practices across different platforms.

She said the workshop reflects the Dubai Press Club’s commitment to creating opportunities for direct dialogue and knowledge exchange with national leaders and policymakers, helping media professionals and content creators stay informed about legislative and professional developments shaping the industry.

Al Mulla added that the partnership between the Dubai Press Club and the National Media Authority serves as a successful model of institutional collaboration aimed at fostering a more professional, responsible, and future-ready media ecosystem.

The workshop concluded with a discussion on safeguards designed to protect society from harmful content, including measures to combat misinformation and fake news, promote accuracy through official sources, safeguard individual privacy, protect children from inappropriate content, and prohibit inflammatory material.
