Sheikh Hamdan approves master plan to transform Umm Suqeim Beach into an iconic destination.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, has given the green light to the master plan for developing Umm Suqeim Beach. The project aims to create an iconic destination that combines global appeal with a distinctive Emirati identity, setting it apart as a unique public space.

This initiative is part of Dubai Municipality’s broader strategy to enhance the emirate’s public beaches, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a leading global tourism destination.

Sheikh Hamdan stated, “Today, we have approved the AED 500 million Umm Suqeim Beach master plan. This project is part of our ongoing efforts to elevate Dubai’s beaches with world-class design, innovation, and advanced urban planning. Our goal is to create sustainable, high-quality leisure and tourism facilities that reflect Dubai’s pioneering spirit. Dubai remains a jewel among cities and a pearl among beach destinations, and enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors remains our top priority.”

He added that the development of public spaces, infrastructure, and waterfronts is part of an integrated vision to create a holistic urban environment that meets community needs and strengthens Dubai’s reputation as the best city in the world to live, work, and visit.

The Umm Suqeim Beach redevelopment aligns with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, which emphasizes integrated public spaces that promote healthy lifestyles, enrich resident and visitor experiences, and support overall wellbeing. It also supports the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, focusing on waterfront development, optimal coastal land use, and sustainable urban infrastructure to accommodate the emirate’s future growth.

Spanning 3.1 kilometres and covering approximately 445,000 square metres, the project will expand beach and developable areas by 30%. Smart lighting will illuminate 130,000 square metres to support evening activities and night swimming. The plan is informed by detailed social, environmental, and traffic studies, as well as community engagement, to ensure sustainability, high-quality planning, and a balance between tourism and the surrounding environment, including the privacy of nearby residents.

The approval ceremony was attended by prominent officials, including H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, and Mattar Al Tayer.

Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, speaking on behalf of Dubai Municipality, said, “The Umm Suqeim Beach project reflects our commitment to implementing the leadership’s vision by delivering world-class tourism infrastructure while prioritising quality of life, sustainability, and community wellbeing. Our focus is on creating an all-day beach destination that combines leisure, sports, and culture, with safe and inclusive facilities for people of determination and senior citizens, welcoming all segments of society.”

The redeveloped beach will cater to up to six million visitors annually, featuring upgraded infrastructure, a 200% increase in parking capacity to 2,400 spaces, improved road access from Jumeirah Street, and separation of traffic flows from residential areas.

Key features include six main gateways reflecting the beach’s Emirati identity, 10 mobility hubs, 11 taxi points, bicycle and electric scooter facilities, and a 38-metre observation tower inspired by Dubai’s maritime heritage.

Sustainability and climate resilience are central to the project, which includes a two-kilometre retaining wall, elevated beach levels, and an AI-powered smart facilities management system to optimize operations.

Through this master plan, Dubai Municipality aims to attract private sector investment, strengthen public-private partnerships, and further boost the emirate’s tourism economy, turning Umm Suqeim Beach into a globally recognized landmark and a symbol of Dubai’s urban and tourism excellence.
