
The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) reported that Sharjah’s economy continued its strong performance in April 2026, with a total of 6,440 economic licences issued and renewed, representing a 3% increase compared to the same period last year.

Of this total, 5,843 licences were renewed, while 597 new licences were issued, reflecting sustained business activity and growing investor confidence in the emirate’s economic environment.

Hamad Ali Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Chairman of SEDD, said the figures highlight continued investment momentum and steady economic growth in Sharjah. He noted that the emirate’s economy has demonstrated strong resilience and growth potential despite regional geopolitical tensions and external challenges.
He added that Sharjah’s economic strategy, guided by leadership directives, continues to enhance competitiveness and support rising growth levels, while ongoing improvements in services, transaction efficiency, and infrastructure are strengthening its appeal to both local and foreign investors.
According to SEDD’s breakdown, commercial licences led new issuances with 310 licences, followed by professional licences (170), industrial licences (43), and a combined total of 37 “Eitimad” and e-commerce licences.
Among renewed licences, commercial licences also ranked first with 3,730 renewals, followed by professional licences (1,712) and industrial licences (309).
Regionally, Sharjah City accounted for the majority of new licences with 449 issuances, followed by the Central Region (56) and the Eastern Region (51). The department also issued 41 instant electronic licences during the month.
For renewals, Sharjah City recorded 4,757 licences, while the Eastern Region registered 564 and the Central Region 495.
SEDD further reported 17,019 commercial inspection transactions in April, marking a 3% increase compared to April 2025.
In addition, commercial protection complaints reached 2,041 cases, including 1,539 consumer protection complaints, 108 commercial fraud complaints, and 83 complaints related to service agents.
The department encouraged consumers to report any illegal commercial practices or errors in commercial signage through its call centre, website, and smart application.
