According to a Reuters report, Nvidia is preparing to restart shipments of its H200 artificial intelligence chips to China has informed Chinese customers that deliveries could begin before the Lunar New Year holiday in mid-February.
The initial shipments are expected to come from existing inventory and could include between 5,000 and 10,000 chip modules, equivalent to roughly 40,000 to 80,000 H200 AI chips. Nvidia has also indicated plans to expand production capacity, with new orders for that capacity opening in the second quarter of 2026.
The decision follows a change in U.S. policy after President Donald Trump announced that exports of the advanced chips would be permitted in exchange for a 25 percent fee, reversing restrictions imposed by the previous administration.
If completed, the shipments would significantly boost the computing power available to major Chinese technology firms such as Alibaba and ByteDance, offering performance up to six times higher than their current options. However, Chinese authorities are reportedly assessing the situation carefully, concerned that increased access to U.S. chips could reduce momentum in developing domestic alternatives.
