Qatar’s satellite operator Es’hailSat has announced that its third satellite project is expected to cost approximately €295 million ($347 million) and is scheduled for launch in 2030, as the company continues to expand its satellite communications capabilities.
Es’hailSat Chief Executive Ali Ahmed Al Kuwari said the Es’hail-3 satellite project will require an estimated three to four years for design, manufacturing, and launch preparation.
Unlike Es’hailSat’s previous satellites, which were primarily focused on television broadcasting services, Es’hail-3 will be dedicated to advanced communications applications. These will include fixed and mobile connectivity, aviation and maritime communications, as well as support for critical sectors such as oil, gas, and energy.
Al Kuwari noted that the new satellite will significantly expand Es’hailSat’s coverage footprint across Asia, Africa, and Europe, thereby strengthening Qatar’s position in the regional and global satellite communications market.
The project is being developed in collaboration with Türkiye’s Türksat, which will provide orbital rights and frequencies at 50° East, and Thales Alenia Space, which will be responsible for the satellite’s design and manufacturing.
He added that Es’hail-3 will enhance secure communications services and contribute to Qatar’s broader strategy of developing a knowledge-based economy while building national expertise in the space and satellite technology sector.
