Emirates Completes First Installation Of “Starlink” Wi-Fi System On Its Airbus A380 Aircraft

Emirates has installed its first next-generation Starlink Wi-Fi system on an Airbus A380, marking a major upgrade in inflight connectivity.

The A380—one of the earliest commercial aircraft to introduce onboard internet—previously relied on systems delivering speeds of under 1 Mbps. The new Starlink setup, equipped with three antennas per aircraft, increases capacity by up to 1,000 times, enabling a connectivity experience comparable to home use even at cruising altitude.

The first upgraded aircraft has returned to Dubai following installation and certification in Newquay, UK, with additional A380s set for rapid upgrades throughout 2026.

The service will be offered free of charge to all passengers across every cabin class, with simple access. Future plans include live TV streaming through Starlink, initially available on personal devices and later integrated into seatback screens.

Engineered specifically for the A380’s double-deck design and large passenger capacity, the system provides over 2 Gbps of total bandwidth. Compared to the Boeing 777, the A380 requires extra wireless access points and an additional antenna to handle higher demand.

To accelerate rollout, Starlink installations will soon begin at Emirates Engineering facilities in Dubai. Currently, 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft are already equipped, with more than 650,000 passengers having used the service.

This initiative is part of Emirates’ broader efforts to enhance the passenger experience, including its extensive retrofit programme. So far, 93 aircraft have been upgraded with refreshed cabins, modern interiors, and inflight systems offering over 6,500 entertainment options.

In 2025, Emirates also launched an $8 million Centre of Hospitality Excellence, aimed at training 25,000 cabin crew and further elevating service standards.
