Media City Qatar has introduced a series of specialist research papers examining emerging trends shaping the media industry across the Gulf region and the wider Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The initiative aims to provide investors, businesses, policymakers, and content creators with data-driven insights into the rapid transformation of the regional media landscape.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Media City Qatar said the research series has been developed in partnership with global technology research firm Omdia. The collaboration draws on in-depth market analysis to identify key trends influencing the future direction of the media and entertainment ecosystem across the region.
The reports will cover several priority sectors, including gaming and interactive digital content, television, radio and music production, digital platforms and social media, as well as media agencies and related support services. The focus is on understanding structural changes, audience behavior, and emerging commercial opportunities within each segment.
Media City Qatar Chief Executive Hamad Omar Al Mannai said the initiative is designed to equip stakeholders with a clearer understanding of ongoing shifts across the Gulf and MENA media industries. He noted that the research will support the growth and development of Qatar’s media ecosystem while also contributing to broader regional industry advancement.
The inaugural report focuses on the rapid rise of micro-drama—short-form scripted content designed primarily for mobile consumption. It examines the genre’s growing popularity in Gulf markets, evolving production models, and the expanding commercial potential driven by increasing demand for mobile-first entertainment.
A second report, expected in the coming weeks, will analyze the fast-growing video podcast sector, exploring audience engagement trends, platform dynamics, monetization opportunities, and the increasing role of artificial intelligence in content creation and distribution.
Media City Qatar said additional reports will be released over the coming months to track ongoing developments across the regional media sector and align with global industry trends, reinforcing its role as a key enabler of media industry growth in Qatar and the wider region.
