Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has announced the launch of a new initiative aimed at supporting innovators, inventors, and rights holders, in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The initiative also involves participation from the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), Sidra Medicine, the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council (QRDI), and the Qatar Scientific Club.
In a statement issued Monday, MOCI said the initiative is designed to deliver a comprehensive suite of services that support innovators throughout the entire innovation lifecycle — from the idea and research phase to the development, commercialization, and utilization of intellectual property assets.
The ministry explained that services will include assistance with preliminary patent database searches and information analysis, the provision of specialized technical guidance for innovators and researchers, as well as support in marketing inventions and facilitating technology transfer.
According to MOCI, innovators can access these services by visiting the participating entities, namely MOCI, UDST (limited to students and university affiliates), Sidra Medicine, the Qatar Scientific Club, and QRDI.
The initiative reflects MOCI’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Qatar’s innovation and intellectual property ecosystem, advancing a knowledge-based economy, and encouraging innovators to protect and invest in their creations in ways that contribute to building a competitive and sustainable national economy.
