Jazan is home to 71 forests spanning a total area of 62,747.35 hectares across its mountains, valleys, and Red Sea coastline, reflecting the region’s exceptional environmental diversity and abundant natural resources. The wide variety of ecosystems has positioned Jazan as one of Saudi Arabia’s leading ecotourism destinations, offering visitors a unique blend of scenic beauty, rich biodiversity, and outdoor recreation opportunities.

The region includes 30 mountain forests spread across its highlands, where dense vegetation, moderate climate, and breathtaking landscapes create an ideal setting for hiking, camping, wildlife observation, and nature-based tourism. These forests are renowned for their picturesque scenery and serve as popular destinations for visitors seeking tranquil retreats amid Jazan’s mountainous terrain.
Along the Red Sea coast, 23 mangrove forests form one of the region’s most valuable coastal ecosystems. These mangrove habitats play a vital role in protecting shorelines from erosion, improving water quality, and supporting marine biodiversity. They also provide breeding grounds for fish and other marine species while serving as important habitats for migratory and resident birds, making them a key attraction for ecotourism and environmental education.

Complementing these landscapes are 18 valley forests, where seasonal watercourses, dense vegetation, and distinctive geological formations combine to create striking natural environments. These forests offer visitors opportunities for exploration, hiking, photography, and recreational activities while showcasing the region’s diverse ecological characteristics.
Collectively, Jazan’s mountain, mangrove, and valley forests make a significant contribution to the region’s growing ecotourism sector. Beyond their tourism value, they play a crucial role in conserving biodiversity, protecting wildlife habitats, enhancing environmental sustainability, and preserving natural resources for future generations, in line with Saudi Arabia’s broader environmental conservation and sustainable development goals.
