Communications Minister at Davos: Saudi Arabia Emerges as a Reliable Global Partner in Shaping the AI Ecosystem

Saudi Arabia is establishing itself as a reliable global partner in developing the artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem in the Intelligent Age, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha stated during a session at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Alswaha emphasized that the Kingdom’s leadership in AI is supported by key enablers such as energy, capital, infrastructure, and human talent, which empower innovators and investors to scale solutions and accelerate value creation. His remarks were delivered during a panel titled “AI for Global Prosperity: Aligning Innovation, Inclusion, and Trust” at the Saudi House pavilion in Davos.

The minister highlighted that Saudi Arabia’s AI achievements reflect the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, with continuous support from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aimed at positioning the Kingdom as a global hub for an innovation-driven economy that empowers people and safeguards the planet.

Alswaha described the world’s transition into the Intelligent Age, where progress depends on the ability to build infrastructure and scale capabilities. While the 20th century was defined by energy, the 21st century is shaped by computing power and AI, turning past energy gaps into computing gaps.

As the world’s largest energy supplier, Saudi Arabia is leveraging its position to expand access to AI technologies and promote inclusivity in benefiting from this transformative technology. The Kingdom is investing heavily in advanced computing and tackling challenges related to chip and memory architecture, laying the foundation for a scalable and sustainable AI ecosystem.

Alswaha also noted Saudi-led initiatives in healthcare, energy, and advanced chemistry, which demonstrate practical applications of AI at scale, contributing to global prosperity and sustainable development in the Intelligent Age.
