According to Japanese industry ministry sources and other reports, the first tanker carrying Russian crude oil since developments in the Middle East affected the Strait of Hormuz is expected to arrive in Japan as early as Monday.
The shipment is being transported to a refinery operated by Taiyo Oil in Ehime Prefecture.
The crude oil originates from the Sakhalin-2 oil and gas project in Russia’s Far East, which remains exempt from Western sanctions related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the sources added, according to Japan News.
The Oman-flagged tanker Voyager departed Sakhalin in late April, according to vessel tracking data from Marine Traffic.
