DEWA’s Green Charger Initiative Has Delivered More Than 62,000 MWh of Electricity Since 2014

Since its launch in 2014 by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the Green Charger Initiative has witnessed significant growth in electric vehicle (EV) charging activity, reflecting the increasing adoption of EVs across Dubai.

Over the past decade, DEWA has supplied more than 62,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity through its charging network, supporting over 310 million kilometres of EV travel. The network includes ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box charging stations strategically located across the emirate.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said the initiative reflects DEWA’s commitment to supporting the leadership’s vision of transforming Dubai into a smart and sustainable city while strengthening the integration of the energy and transportation sectors.

DEWA noted that it has continuously expanded and enhanced its EV charging infrastructure in line with the highest international standards. The initiative encourages individuals and organisations to adopt low-emission transportation solutions, helping to reduce carbon emissions and improve quality of life in Dubai.

Al Tayer added that the initiative supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030, both of which aim to accelerate the adoption of sustainable transportation and expand EV usage. It also contributes to the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, reinforcing the emirate’s transition toward low-carbon mobility.

DEWA currently offers four types of EV chargers:

• Ultra-Fast Charger: 150 kW DC with Type 2 socket

• Fast Charger: 43 kW AC with Type 2 socket, and 50 kW DC CHAdeMO and CCS Combo sockets; most are located at petrol stations

• Public Charger: Dual 22 kW AC chargers with double Type 2 sockets

• Wall-Box Charger: 22 kW AC with a single Type 2 socket

Dubai is now home to 2,223 EV charging stations, while the number of registered users under the Green Charger Initiative has grown to approximately 23,600.

Available 24/7 at key locations across the city, DEWA’s Green Charger stations can be easily located through DEWA’s website and smart application, as well as through 14 additional digital platforms.
