The International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT) has officially recognized Jeddah and Taif as the World Region of Gastronomy 2027. The cities earned the title by fulfilling IGCAT’s criteria for promoting sustainable regional development through gastronomy across economic, cultural, social, and environmental sectors.
This milestone underscores Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in global culinary arts, following the success of the Aseer Region, which held the title in 2024. It highlights the role of gastronomy in preserving cultural heritage and advancing sustainable development, while showcasing the active participation of Saudi regions on international platforms.
The achievement was made possible through the efforts of the Culinary Arts Commission, in collaboration with key partners such as King Abdulaziz University, Dar Al-Hekma University, the Jeddah Governorate Development Authority, and several local businesses. Together, they have promoted education, innovation, and skills development, reinforced cultural identity, and strengthened the connection between gastronomy, tourism, and community engagement.
The award followed a visit by an IGCAT expert jury to Jeddah and Taif, during which local stakeholders demonstrated the cities’ preparedness to hold the title. The jury observed initiatives aimed at fostering culinary and cultural diversity, protecting the environment, preserving heritage, and empowering youth to innovate in ways that enhance sustainable tourism.
