Emirates has achieved a major milestone by completing the refurbishment of 100 aircraft as part of its extensive retrofit programme, the largest of its kind known to be carried out by an airline worldwide.
Since the initiative began in November 2022, the airline’s engineering teams in Dubai have fully upgraded 47 Airbus A380s and 53 Boeing 777s, delivering a comprehensive nose-to-tail transformation of the aircraft cabins.
The programme is set to continue, with around 20 more aircraft scheduled for upgrades by the end of December 2026. This will take Emirates beyond the halfway mark of its US$5 billion investment aimed at enhancing the onboard experience and maintaining consistently high standards across its global network.
Over 44 months, more than 400 engineers and technicians from Emirates Engineering have contributed approximately 4.4 million man-hours to complete the upgrades, revamping cabin interiors across 100 wide-body aircraft.
Each refurbished aircraft has also been equipped with a new Premium Economy cabin. More than 3,800 Premium Economy seats have been installed through the programme, allowing Emirates to expand the availability of the product across more destinations and provide more passengers access to the upgraded cabin experience.
Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, said completing full cabin retrofits for 100 wide-body aircraft within 44 months represented a significant achievement for the airline and reinforced its commitment to delivering premium service across every cabin class.
He said the US$5 billion investment supports Emirates’ goal of helping customers “fly better” by providing enhanced comfort, luxury and attention to detail throughout the journey.

Clark added that completing such a complex project entirely in-house required extensive planning, technical expertise and precision, with Emirates Engineering developing new approaches to retrofit some of the largest commercial passenger aircraft while ensuring each aircraft returned to service on schedule.

Since the launch of the programme, Emirates Engineering has completed retrofits at an average rate of 28 aircraft per year.
During each refurbishment, engineers completely strip the aircraft interiors before carrying out extensive upgrades using more than 4,000 components for an Airbus A380 and over 2,500 parts for a Boeing 777. The aircraft are then carefully reassembled and returned to operation following detailed quality checks.
