Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded the contract for Phase II of the Hessa Street Development Project, advancing efforts to enhance traffic flow and road infrastructure in Dubai.
The second phase covers a 3-kilometre stretch between Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road. Works include the upgrade of three key intersections through the construction of bridges spanning a total of 8,835 metres, in addition to a 480-metre tunnel. The project also entails improvements to entry and exit points along several feeder and connecting roads.
Upon completion, the development will double Hessa Street’s capacity from 4,000 vehicles per hour to 8,000 vehicles per hour. The corridor serves 10 residential and development areas and is expected to benefit approximately 650,000 residents. Travel time along the stretch is projected to drop significantly, from 24 minutes to just five minutes.
RTA is also set to open Phase I of the Hessa Street Development in April. The first phase features newly completed bridges, upgraded junctions, and dedicated cycling tracks aimed at supporting sustainable mobility.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said Phase II complements Phase I, which is scheduled for full completion in the first quarter of 2026. He added that the roads included in Phase II currently handle around 500,000 trips per day.
