Qatar Foundation’s (QF) Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum in Doha has been named among TIME’s World’s Greatest Places 2026, an annual list by TIME magazine that highlights 100 exceptional destinations worldwide.
In a statement issued today, QF said the recognition represents a significant milestone following the museum’s opening in November 2025, reinforcing its position as a leading global cultural destination and a key addition to Qatar’s arts and culture landscape.
TIME described the museum as more than a static exhibition space, noting its role in creating a dynamic dialogue between M. F. Husain’s life and works and the cultures of South Asia, the Arab world, and the broader Global South. The magazine also highlighted Seeroo fi al ardh, Husain’s final masterpiece integrated into the museum’s architecture, along with previously unseen works from his Arab Civilization series.
Kholoud Al Ali, Executive Director of Community Engagement and Programming at Qatar Foundation, said the recognition as one of TIME’s World’s Greatest Places 2026 is a notable achievement for the museum.
She added that the institution celebrates the enduring legacy of M. F. Husain while fostering new conversations across cultures, histories, and geographies. She emphasized that the museum serves as a space where art, education, and cross-cultural dialogue converge, allowing global audiences to engage deeply with Husain’s artistic legacy.
Located within Qatar Foundation’s Education City, the museum is the world’s first and largest institution dedicated to Maqbool Fida Husain, one of the most influential figures in modern art history.
The museum presents more than 150 works and objects spanning paintings, sculpture, film, tapestry, photography, poetry, installations, and personal artifacts, offering insight into Husain’s creative journey and artistic vision.
