DP World and the Fujairah Ports Authority have signed a 50-year concession agreement to develop two new multipurpose container terminals, marking a major expansion of the UAE’s maritime and logistics infrastructure.
The agreement was witnessed by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, and attended by Essa Kazim, Chairman of DP World’s Board of Directors, and Capt. Mousa Murad, Managing Director of the Fujairah Ports Authority.

Under the agreement, DP World will develop Al Rugaylat Container Terminal and Dibba Al Fujairah Port, strengthening Fujairah’s position as a strategic maritime gateway on the Gulf of Oman.
The Crown Prince said the partnership reflects the vision of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, to further establish the emirate as a leading global maritime and logistics hub. He noted that the project will strengthen Fujairah’s economic infrastructure, attract high-quality investments, improve supply chain efficiency, create employment opportunities, and support the UAE’s long-term sustainable development goals.
The Al Rugaylat terminal is designed to handle up to 2.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually, in addition to 1.7 million tonnes of general cargo and 190,000 Car Equivalent Units (CEUs). Dibba Al Fujairah Port will contribute a further 3.6 million tonnes of annual general cargo capacity.
The development is expected to significantly strengthen Fujairah’s growing role in global maritime trade. Strategically located on the Gulf of Oman, the emirate continues to attract investment in ports, logistics, and supply chain infrastructure, creating new economic opportunities and supporting long-term growth.
Once completed, the project will increase DP World’s total container handling capacity across the UAE from 19.4 million TEUs to nearly 22 million TEUs, while substantially expanding the company’s general cargo and roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) capabilities.
The new facilities will be connected to Jebel Ali Port through DP World’s inland logistics network and integrated with Jafza, creating a seamless end-to-end supply chain that enables faster cargo movement between ports, logistics centres, and regional markets.
Development of the terminals will take place in phases, with construction expected to require approximately 24 to 30 months from the commencement of works.
H.H. Sheikh Saleh bin Mohamed Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Fujairah Ports Authority, described the partnership as a major milestone that will introduce world-class terminal operations, increase cargo capacity, and attract further investment to the emirate.
Essa Kazim, Chairman of DP World, said the investment demonstrates the company’s long-term confidence in the UAE’s position as one of the world’s leading trade and logistics hubs, while reinforcing the strategic importance of Fujairah within the national logistics network.
Capt. Mousa Murad, Managing Director of the Fujairah Ports Authority, said the project will enhance the emirate’s port infrastructure and expand the range of services available to cargo owners and logistics providers through modern, efficient terminal operations.
Yuvraj Narayan, Group Chief Executive Officer of DP World, added that the Fujairah expansion complements the capabilities of Jebel Ali Port by providing additional capacity to support future trade growth, while offering customers greater operational flexibility and stronger supply chain resilience.
