The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a service for issuing and renewing parking permits for the elderly and the disabled, and renewing permits for the disabled through smart phones using RTA DUBAI App. The move is part of RTA’s incessant efforts towards harnessing the technology for serving the community and customers inspired by the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the U.A.E. and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into the smartest city of the world. It also signals a support to the initiative of the Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart Government Program, and the initiative of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, aimed at transforming Dubai into a Disabled-Friendly city by 2020.
Sultan Al Marzooki, Director of Drivers Licensing, RTA Licensing Agency, said: “The elderly and disabled categories feature prominently in the attention and consideration of our wise leadership. In keeping with this humanitarian-oriented attitude, the RTA equally assigns a special attention to them, and has configured the smart applications of mobile phones to suit these two segments in our community. This is particularly relevant as easing the process of parking permits has become a pressing need for the elderly as well as the disabled. Besides that, the RTA has embarked on a plan to augment the number of services offered via the smart applications platform.” “The RTA has already started the implementation of a plan to upgrade the benefits and effectiveness of this application through beefing up the number of services provided under the smart app RTA DUBAI for these two segments, namely: Disabled Parking Permit (Temporary), Disabled Parking Permit (Tourist), and Disabled Centers Parking Permit, in addition to a parking permit for those suffering chronic diseases and put on permanent visits to hospitals and medical centers. The service offering extends further to include delivering parking permits to geographical locations of the entitled recipients of these parking permits,” explained Al Marzooki.
