Oman Air on Monday announced the suspension of its flights over Iraqi airspace as a precautionary measure due to the events in the region, reported Oman News Agency (ONA).

As a result, all Oman Air’s flights to and from Muscat International Airport will avoid flying over Iraq’s airspace, Oman Air said in a statement carried by ONA.

“Due to this measure, the flight-times for passengers traveling on board Oman Air flights to and from the European destinations as well as Beirut, Lebanon, may be altered, and therefore they are advised to report to the local air carriers to check whether their flights would be affected or not,” Oman Air said.

Paul Gregorowitsch, CEO of Oman Air, said that the measure came as part of the ongoing follow up of flight pathways between Muscat and Europe. He affirmed that the company places passengers and crew safety on top of its priorities.

Oman Air says it operates flights to 43 international destinations, six of which to Europe namely London, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich and Milano. In 2013, Oman Air transported more than 5 million passengers.
