Ashghal Announces Opening of 4th Phase of C-Ring Road Project

The fourth phase of the C-Ring Road development project is set to open completely for traffic flow on Thursday as the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced road users can now benefit from the smooth traffic flow in the area extending from the New Slata to Al Kinana intersections, and from the Center Roundabout until right before Al Asiri Interchange.

As part of the fourth phase of the project, Ashghal completed all the works on the road extending from the Centre Roundabout until right before Al Asiri Interchange, which included widening the road from two to three lanes in each direction, in addition to converting the Centre Roundabout to a signal-controlled intersection and providing access from Ibn Seena street to the Centre Intersection through a U-turn, Ashghal said Wednesday in a press release.

In the beginning of December, Ashghal opened parts of Al Kinana street and Qatari Bin Al Fujaah street, extending for around 350 meters in both directions of the two streets branching out from C-Ring Road at Al Kinana signal. These parts were closed earlier for the expansion of the two roads by adding an additional lane in each direction.

Ashghal also concluded work on the road extending from Jabor bin Ahmed, better known as Ramada Intersection, to the middle point between New Slata and Rawdat Al Khail intersections. This part of the C-Ring Road was expanded from three to four lanes in each direction.

On Nov. 11, Ashghal announced the opening of part of the C-Ring Road to traffic, extending from Ramada Intersection to Al Kinana Intersection, after widening this part from three to four lanes in each direction.

This marks the completion of the fourth phase of the project, which also included comprehensive maintenance and repaving works on the main road of this phase and the feeder roads as well as constructing signalized pedestrian crossings in the new intersection. During the coming period, pedestrian safety barriers will be installed on the median along the main street without disturbing the traffic flow.

The fourth phase of the project involves a 6.3 kilometers stretch from the C-Ring Road’s intersection with Salwa Road (Ramada Intersection) to Umm Ghuwailina Roundabout. The project mainly aims at enhancing the road capacity to accommodate current and future traffic needs. All four phases of the project are expected to finalize in the second quarter of 2015.

Meanwhile, Ashghal will close part of the service road that extends for about 120 meters in the direction from TV Roundabout to Al Markhiya Intersection (in front of Paris Bakery until Al Moghrabi Optics) in order to replace decaying water pipes in the area.

The closure will start on Friday morning and will last until Jan. 10. Visitors of shops located on the closed part of the road will need to use internal roads and park their cars at the backside during the project’s eight-day period, Ashghal said.
