Msheireb Properties and Vodafone-Qatar signed Saturday an agreement for providing telecommunication services for the Msheireb Downtown Doha project, the world’s first sustainable downtown regeneration project.
Based on the agreement, Vodafone will build and maintain all of the necessary mobile sites on the premises to provide superior network coverage and data speeds to customers using the latest technology such as 4G and beyond. Vodafone will also be committed to supply any future technology requirements that might emerge as the construction progresses. Vodafone’s latest fiber network services was one of the highlights that secured the agreement.
The agreement was signed at the Msheireb Enrichment Center by HE Vodafone Qatar’s Chairman Sheikh Dr. Khalid Bin Thani Bin Abdullah Al Thani and Msheireb Properties CEO Eng. Abdulla Hassan Al-Mehshadi.
Commenting on the agreement, HE Sheikh Dr Khalid Bin Thani Bin Abdullah Al Thani said, Vodafone were proud to enter into a partnership with Msheireb Properties. His Excellency added that the partnership was a natural fit since both organizations were supporting the Foundation’s aims and the Qatar National Vision 2030. Vodafone is committed to supply Msheireb with state of the art telecommunications infrastructure that will meet this project’s ambitious aims.
For his part Al-Mehshadi, said that Msheireb Properties aimed to transform the urban environment in Qatar, blending aspects of Qatar’s traditional heritage and aesthetics with modern technology and design. He added that the partnership with Vodafone meets the project’s communication requirements that guarantee international levels of service.
The “Msheireb DownTown Doha” (MDD) project aims to create a legacy for sustainable urban development in Qatar by reviving the old commercial district of Doha with a new architectural language that is modern, yet inspired by traditional Qatari heritage and design. The entire development is designed to consume fewer resources, generate less waste, lower costs and achieve a reduced carbon footprint.
On completion, MDD will be the world’s largest certified sustainable community with over 100 commercial buildings, 900 residential units accommodating more than 2,600 residents and over 10,255 car parking spaces. The 310,000 square meter development can host over 60,000 visitors. All the planned buildings meet the LEED Gold standard for environment performance and some buildings will aim for a Platinum rating.
