Director General of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) Abdullateef Al-Hamad said Monday a conference on economic transformations in the Arab countries was “one of the most successful” meetings held in the past few years.
Speaking to KUNA at the conclusion of the conference, Al-Hamad said participants discussed over two days national expertise and challenges caused by the economic transformations in regional countries.
The participants, he added, also discussed social security and how the most needy people get the subsidies.
Al-Hamad called for paying extra attention to growth of population and education.
Director General of the International Moentary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde, who attended the conference, called for stepping the fight against corruption and involving the youth in economy.
The participants in the conference, co-organized by the government of Jordan, Kuwait-based AFESD and IMF, discussed economic transformations following the Arab Spring, transparency, governance and how to address unemployment.
