The United Arab Emirates (UAE) University received the “Academic Institution Contributions Award” by Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) Middle East. This society specializes in geophysical exploration and its various applications.
The honoring ceremony was held in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, as part of the SEG Middle East celebration of the tenth anniversary of the establishment of its branch in the region. Prof. Ahmed Ali Murad, Associate Provost for Research, received the award from Kenneth Tobman, President of the Society for the current session 2022-2023.
Prof. Ahmed Murad emphasized that this award represents one of the outcomes of the effective knowledge and educational role provided by the UAE university and reflects the high impact of scientific, educational and research contributions in various fields. The UAE University contributes to creating distinct competitive opportunities by equipping its student with the future knowledge, tools, and skills. This award enhances the university’s position as the university of the future through the high quality of its academic and research educational outcomes. The UAE University, through its strategic partnership, emphasizes the importance of knowledge exchange for the benefit of all parties.
Prof. Ahmed Murad elaborated that the UAE university technical and research contributions and the partnership with the society since the organization of the 3rd International Conference of Engineering Geophysics in 2015 has resulted in classifying this conference among the best five international conferences in the last five years since the fourth cycle of the conference in 2017.
He added that the university’s contributions are diverse, including participation of faculty members in the society scientific and advisory committees of conferences, forums and workshops. These contributions enabled the society office in the Middle East to continue communicating with many institutions in the region and allowed for sharing best experiences and knowledge.
Three faculty members from the Department of Geosciences at the UAE University were also honored, namely Prof. Haydar Bakr and Dr. Khaled Saleh Al Balooshi for their active role in the voluntary committees, and Prof. Hakim Saibi for his prominent role in the scientific and academic committees.
