The Dubai Financial Market General Index increased by 27.9% to 5042.9 points at the end of this quarter compared to 3942.8 points at the end of second quarter 2014. At the sectoral level, all nine indices represented on DFM ended the quarter in the green, with Real Estate and Construction sector increasing the most by 40.5%, followed by the Financial and Investment Services and the Industrial sectors by 31.2%, and 24.3% respectively. The Banking and Services indices were up 21.3%, and 16.7% respectively.

The market capitalisation increased at the end of this quarter by 22.2% amounting to AED 357.6 billion compared to AED 292.7 billion at the end of the previous quarter. The value of shares traded during this quarter reached AED 78.4 billion, compared to AED 126.9 billion recorded during the second quarter, down 38.2%. The number of shares traded decreased by 24% to reach 31.8 billion shares during this quarter compared to 41.9 billion shares traded during second quarter. The number of transactions executed during this quarter down 27.7% to reach 522.4 thousand compared to 722.6 thousand deals carried out during the previous quarter.

As for the sectors’ contribution to trading volumes, the Real Estate and Construction sector ranked first in terms of the traded value, to reach AED 57.6 billion, or 73.5% of the total traded value in the market. The Banking sector ranked second at AED 9.6 billion or 12.2%, followed by the Financial and Investment Services sector with AED 8.5 billion or 10.9%. The Transportation sector with AED 1.4 billion or 1.7%, the Telecommunication sector with AED 376.2 million or 0.5%, the Insurance sector with AED 353.2 billion or 0.5%, and the Services sector with AED 305.7 million or 0.4%, and the Consumer staples sector with AED 303.6 million or 0.4%.

The value of stocks bought by foreign investors during this quarter reached AED 35.2 billion comprising 44.9% of the total traded value. The value of stocks sold by foreign investors during the same period reached AED 33.7 billion comprising 43% of the total value traded. Accordingly, DFM net foreign investment in-flow reached AED 1.5 billion.

The value of stocks bought by institutional investors during this quarter reached AED 18.7 billion comprising 23.8% of the total traded value. The value of stocks sold by institutional investors during the same period reached AED 18.1billion, which constitutes 23.1% of the total value. Net institutional investment in-flow from DFM amounted to AED 585million.
