As the year comes to a close, Deliveroo has taken a moment to look back on the food trends of the year. Cheeseburgers, being a much-loved classic, have globally taken over across all markets, scoring the top spot on the list.

Across 12 markets, in a list of top 100, UAE residents will find favorites like the Five Guys Cheese Burger, which was the #1 most ordered dish globally and locally. Other UAE favorites included items from Pickl, Starbucks and Cali Poke amongst others.

The food delivery platform also shared key food trends:

Vegan
Deliveroo has yet again seen a huge increase in demand for vegan food in the last twelve months, with orders of plant-based dishes up 115% on the previous year proving veganism isn’t just another here-today and gone-tomorrow food trend.

Health-Conscious
With orders of healthy options increasing in 2020, when people were more keen to stay healthy during lockdown, it’s no surprise dishes like the Traditional Acai bowl from The Acai Spot and the small Poke Bowl from CALI-POKE from Dubai made it to the list of most-popular dishes.

Classics
While the cheeseburgers were the star of the year, traditional takeaway cuisines like chicken sandwiches saw an increase in delivery orders. Most popular dishes in the classics category included the Shack Burger from Shake Shack UAE, and the Chicken Sando from Pickl.

Chicken
Whether fried, grilled or baked, it’s clear that people love chicken, with a poultry-based sandwich taking the 4th spot on this year’s list. Favourites from UAE include the Chicken Sando from Pickl.

Deliveroo operates in over 500 towns and cities across 12 markets, including Australia, Belgium, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and the United Kingdom.
