The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, TRA, hosted the sixth Next Generation Network (NGNae) Forum at its Dubai headquarters in attendance with the representatives of the parties concerned with the issue including Emirates Telecommunications Corporation – Etisalat, Emirates Integrated Telecommunication Company – du and global communications technology company – Ericsson.
The aim of the NGNae Forum is to provide an interactive platform allowing all partnering entities to meet and discuss issues pertaining to strategies implemented for the development and improvement of the current state of the telecommunications sector in the nation, the regulatory authority said, adding that another focal point of the forum is to conceptualize scenarios and solutions that are applicable in order to overcome any potential challenges that the Next Generation Network may face.
The forum agenda also included a workshop guiding attendees on practical methods of knowledge dissemination in the areas related to innovations in telecommunication networks.
“The NGNae Forum is an essential opportunity for approved service providers, allowing them the freedom to contribute to the development of Next Generation Networks by offering their visions and opinions regarding the mechanisms and framework of the ICT sector in the UAE. This admission includes their ability to strengthen the role, status, and access to a transparent set of rules and regulations for Next Generation Networks, as well as the promotion of broadband, and ensuring the security and protection of users. As a whole, this allows service providers to share experiences and knowledge, and thus contribute to the development of the technological framework needed, and standards required for Next Generation Networks,” said Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, Deputy Director General in TRA.
The NGNae Forum is a tool for sharing knowledge among the licensees on the importance of addressing issues related to all relevant matters concerning the TRA framework. The forum is intended to facilitate the transition to Next Generation Networks in the UAE, as well as providing the opportunity to conduct experiments on the basic principles that link internal Internet protocols with the adoption of technological standards.
