The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) has appointed Marc Mollema as the Managing Director and Global Head of Energy & Resources as NBAD aims to expand its services to the sector.
Mr. Mollema leads NBAD’s Energy and Resources portfolio with a growing team of sector specialists.
Energy and resources is one of the key industrial sectors that align to NBAD’s global growth strategies, and will be an area of focus for the Bank.
“NBAD is well-positioned to be a major player in the energy and resources; this is a space we have played in for a long time and we possess the world class expertise to be the number one player in this space,” says Rola Abu Manneh, the Senior Managing Director & Head of Clients Relationships at NBAD.
Ms. Abu Manneh adds: “Marc’s mandate to expand our role in energy and resources is an important part of NBAD’s strategy to ‘be core to our chosen customers.’”
Mr. Mollema, who has 16 years of experience in the energy sector, joined NBAD from BNP Paribas. In his last role, he served as regional head of energy and commodities – Middle East & Africa.
During his career at BNP Paribas, he worked in London, where he was responsible for BNP Paribas’s global account strategy for its key clients in the oil, Gas, metals and mining sectors.
Prior to BNP Paribas, Mr. Mollema worked in the Netherlands and the UAE for ABN Amro Bank.
“NBAD’s robust brand is driven by our strong credit standing and one of the Safest Banks in the World coupled by our domicile in the GCC. NBAD is at the origin and consequently at the crossroads of very important commodity flows. My goal and aspiration is to position NBAD’s strength to make it the Arab bank of choice and the ‘go-to’ institution in the energy and resources sector across the West-East Corridor,” says Mr. Mollema.
NBAD’s growth strategy is founded on pursuing the growing trade and investment flows across West-East Corridor. Based on this guiding strategy, the Bank aims to capitalise on NBAD’s strong fundamentals and the UAE’s strategic location to tap into the growing economies that span from West Africa across to East Asia. The ‘Corridor’ includes increasingly important economies in MENA, the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia and greater China. This region represents vast potentials with significant natural resources, growing economic activities, and an emerging middle class.
NBAD is ranked the Safest Bank in the Emerging Markets, and one of the World’s 50 Safest Banks since 2009.
Mr. Mollema earned a Master of Law Degree from University of Groningen in the Netherlands, and an MBA from Instituto de Empresa in Spain.
