HE Minister of Finance Ali Sharif Al Emadi said Monday that Qitcom has emerged as one of the most prominent conferences in the Middle-East concerned with the latest technological innovations.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, His Excellency said that hosting a selection of international and local experts in the information technology field reflects the state’s commitment to providing the best services in that field as part of its strive for sustainable development.
His Excellency noted that the telecommunications and information sectors are one of the main points of Qatar National Vision 2030, due to the sectors’ influence on pushing forward knowledge economy. HE the Minister added that the government has put developing the infra-structure for telecommunication sector, in accordance with the directives of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
HE the Finance Minister added that the government’s priority was reflected in its budget for the 2014/2015 financial budget. Some 40% of this year’s budget have gone towards completing main projects, which information technology is a main component of. A clear example of this commitment is the QR2.5 billion the government will invest in Es’hail sat during the next three years. His Excellency revealed that investment’s in the telecommunication sector were at an average of 17% during the past five years. HE the Minister also revealed that the telecommunications sector participates with QR7.5 billion of the GDP back in 2013, up from QR5.5 billion in 2010.
HE the Minister said that the government’s investment in the information technology sector reflected its understanding of the vital role telecommunication plays in the lives of individuals and corporations alike. At the end of his speech, His Excellency expressed his hope that that the participants can come out with influential working plans that helps advance comprehensive development locally and on an international scale.
