Kuwaiti products are of high quality and are capable of competing against international products, said Chairman of Amman Chamber of Commerce Essa Murad.
Kuwaiti-Jordanian commercial ties have recently further developed, despite the political tension in the region, Murad told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Sunday. Jordan hopes to strengthen these ties further to equal the two countries’ prominent political relations, he added.
There are 61 Kuwaiti partners registered in the Amman Chamber of Commerce with a capital of USD 134 million, said the Chairman. The total of Kuwaiti investments in Jordan reached USD 10 billion in tourism, industry, telecommunications, banks and the health sector, he added.
Meanwhile, Murad noted that the number of Kuwaiti tourists visiting Jordan in the first six months of 2014 was 42,518, an increase of 26 percent compared to the same period last year.
As for commercial exchange between the two sides in the same time period of 2014, Murad said that the total of Jordan’s exports to Kuwait have recorded USD 72.4 million during the first six months of 2014, while imports from Kuwait reached USD 114.6 million.
The Chairman praised Kuwait’s economic support for his country, mainly the recent contribution to the donation of USD 1.25 billion by the Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND).
Jordan had benefitted the most from aid provided by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), said Murad, noting that the fund had contributed to funding 25 economic and social projects with KD 171,939 million between 1962 and 2014.
Amman Chamber of Commerce was established in 1923. The chamber has about 46,000 member companies and commercial institutes with a capital of USD 46.6 billion.
