The world’s only formation wingwalking team returned to the UAE at the Dubai Airshow on November 9 to perform an aerobatics display with H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum flying alongside.
Marking their third appearance in the UAE, the Breitling Wingwalker pilots performed a display of close formation aerobatics, daring crossover manoeuvres and a series of aerial stunts as the wingwalker girls rode on top of the wings of the two Breitling-liveried 1930’s Boeing Stearman bi-planes.
Enduring speeds of up to 150mp/h forces, the women executed an elegant routine during the flight, even taking time to wave to the spectators below. The wingwalker team famously took H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on a private wingwalk during their inaugural visit to Dubai in 2014.
The Breitling-branded planes were originally used as training planes during the Second World War, but were later pressed into service as crop dusters and general utility aircraft. The Breitling planes have been uprated from 220-horsepower to 450-horsepower to allow the planes to do more aerobatic manoeuvres.
The Breitling Wingwalkers will perform daily at the 2015 Dubai Airshow.
