Dubai Customs and DP World U.A.E. Region have explored further cooperation and coordination to step up their services and facilitations for global and regional trade.

A coordination meeting was held in Dubai Customs HQ and was attended on the part of Dubai Customs by Abdullah Mohammed Al Khaja, Executive Director of Clients Management Division, and Saeed Ahmed Al Tayer, Acting Executive Director of Polices and Legislation Division. On the other side, the DP World delegation comprised Mohammed Ali Ahmed, Chief Operating Officer, DP World, U.A.E. Region and Abdulla Bin Damithan, Commercial Director, DP World, U.A.E. Region. A number of managers and officials from both sides were present at the meeting.

The two parties emphasised the importance of coordinating the processes and systems applied on customs and ports services, ensuring that traders and investors get an added value from picking Dubai as their investments hub.

Abdullah Al Khaja said, “We at Dubai Customs strive to achieve highest level of coordination with DP World to integrate our systems, for the ultimate goal of ensuring the facilitation of trade and safeguarding the community against the dangers of smuggling. These are the strategic goals we work relentlessly to achieve by constantly developing our service offerings, in fulfilment of the vision of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for upgrading government services up to the highest standards of excellence and innovation.” He added, “Through coordination meetings with DP World, we review all joint processes between us to remove obstacles that limit the efficiency of services provided to trade in Dubai, and consequently further enhance the competitive edge of the emirate in the area of trade facilitation to serve overall economic growth through diversified sources of income.” Mohammed Ali Ahmed, Chief Operating Officer, DP World, U.A.E. Region, said, “Our on-going cooperation with Dubai Customs, helps to provide the port’s customers with the best service to assure that their consignments and merchandise reach the market in a timely manner. Undoubtedly, better coordinated ports and customs services will help avoid any interruptions in the flow of goods. This gives traders added value that boosts their business returns as the trade across Dubai.” He noted that “Such bilateral coordination meetings aim to avoid any duplication of procedures, so that traders will not have to bear unnecessary extra costs. This will help maintain Dubai’s position as the gateway for the region and an international hub with cost-effective services offered to traders and investors.” The fast shift by Dubai Government’s agencies into the ambitious phase of delivering fully smart public services, as part of Dubai Smart Strategy, is fostering effective coordination and cooperation between Dubai Customs and DP World.

The reinforcement of synergy among government and private organizations concerned with trade facilitation in Dubai is a key factor to making Expo 2020 a successful event, thus ensuring the emirate’s capacity to host even the biggest global fairs and exhibitions.
