The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), recently at its headquarters in Sharjah, welcomed a delegation representing a number of SME’s operating in Japan’s renewable energy industry sector. JETRO is the Japan External Trade Organisation aimed at exploring the numerous investment and business opportunities on offer in Sharjah’s burgeoning environmental sector.
The Japanese delegation met with Mohammed Juma Al Musharrakh, Head of Investment Promotion at Shurooq, and representatives of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, Sharjah Environment Company- Bee’ah, the Sharjah-based award-winning fully integrated environment and waste management company.
The SME delegation included senior officials from JETRO Dubai and JETRO Tokyo.
The Japanese delegation lauded the advances being made in Sharjah’s renewable energy sector, specifically with reference to the emirate’s ambitious and imminently attainable goal of having a zero waste to landfill ration by 2015. They also expressed their interest in expanding their operations into Sharjah, noting that emirate’s strategic location and excellent infrastructure make it an ideal base for business operations in the Middle East.
Following the meeting at the Shurooq headquarters, the delegation also undertook a tour of the SAIF-Zone with the aim of familiarising themselves with the procedures of setting up business in the free zone. The delegation expressed their praise for the facilities offered by SAIF-Zone as well as their concrete interest in starting operations in Sharjah in the near future.
Mohammed Al Musharrakh, Head of Investment Promotion at Shurooq, remarked, “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to welcome the Japanese delegation to Sharjah. Shurooq’s key mandate is to promote and facilitate investment in Sharjah and this meeting was an excellent opportunity to bring experienced international business interests together with the key companies and authorities that can aid them in expanding their business into Sharjah.” “The meeting was extremely productive with the Japanese representatives showing keen interest in the opportunities that Sharjah has to offer, especially in our fast growing environmental sector. We are looking forward to welcoming a number of Japanese business interests to Sharjah in the near future.” Shurooq, established in 2009, strives to encourage investment in the emirate of Sharjah by adopting the best international standards in providing quality services that help attract investors from the region and the world.
