Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has held a workshop to cascade its 2014-2018 strategic plan.
The meeting was attended by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA and other senior officials. The workshop, held at Raffles Hotel Dubai, was also attended by Robert Swan, the foremost polar explorer, motivational speaker and environment leader.
The workshop aimed to review the strategic objectives and initiatives of the different sectors as part of the 2014 2018 plan regarding DEWA s future developments. It provided an update on DEWA s recent achievements, and its roadmap for the next five years.
“The workshop underlines our commitment to establish our leadership in strategic planning in line with the vision of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It aligns with the goals of the U.A.E. national agenda, the U.A.E. Vision 2021 and the Dubai Strategic Plan 2021 in addition to achieving DEWA s organisational goals,” said Al Tayer.
“DEWA is committed to becoming a sustainable world-class utility, providing safe, reliable and sustainable, utility services, and promoting the Emirate as a global hub for business, finance, tourism and green economy,” added Al Tayer.
“The workshop presented development programmes of DEWA to ensure excellence across all our operations, identify improvement opportunities and implement projects to strengthen the infrastructure for electricity and water in the Emirate of Dubai. Our initiatives focus on promoting Dubai s sustainable development and establishing it as the smartest city in the world in the years to come,” concluded Al Tayer.
Robert Swan delivered an inspirational speech at the opening of the workshop on the importance of will power to achieve one s goals, and also underlined the importance of sustainable growth. “If we do not get back to using more clean and renewable technologies in the real world, we cannot preserve the Antarctic continent,” said Swan.
Praising the achievements of Dubai in the field of sustainability, he emphasised the need to strengthen environmental awareness among the young generation and spread the message of sustainability to DEWA s customers and employees.
“The decisions taken by the youth of today will affect our planet and the future of life on Earth. We must encourage today s youth to make positive decisions and enhance their role in the protection of the environment,” added Swan.
“This workshop had detailed discussions on output performance and reviewed the mechanisms for strategic planning, performance indicators and improvement initiatives,” said Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at DEWA.
At the workshop, 13 presentations were delivered on all of DEWA s plans and strategic initiatives for the years 2014 2018.
