The Arab economic and social affairs ministers will hold their 94th session at the Arab League headquarters on Thursday with the participation of Kuwaiti Finance Minister Anas Al-Saleh.
The meeting, to be attended by the Arab League Secretary General Nabil Al-Araby, will focus on enhancing pan-Arab economic and social action.
The senior officials of economic and social affairs in the member states held a preparatory meeting Wednesday to set the ministerial meetings agenda and draft resolutions.
“The main issue on the agenda of Thursday’s meeting would Arab trade zone and Arab customs union,” Assistant Arab League Secretary General for Economic Affairs Mohammad Al-Tuwaijri said following the senior officials’ meeting.
“The officials have also prepared draft resolutions to give impetus to pan-Arab investments.” He added that the ministerial council will also tackle the economic impacts of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, especially the recent Israeli devastating war on Gaza Strip.
On the social agenda of the ministerial council meeting, Assistant Arab League Secretary General for Social Affairs Faeqa Saleh said the ministers would review the proposed social agenda of the upcoming Arab Summit, to be held in Egypt in March 2015.
“The conferees would discuss the joint Arab strategy to address domestic violence,” she told reporters after the senior officials meeting.
“They will mull bolstering Arab and international cooperation in the social and development issues.” She noted that the participants would consider a comprehensive plan to develop social work in Arab countries.
