At Centena, we believe in using creative thinking, imaginative engineering, and innovative technology to revolutionise the industries we operate in. Through our strategic partnerships and our dedication to technological advancement, we are reshaping the landscape across the MENA region.

At ScreenCheck, our security and identification division, we are using the power of AI to enhance biometric access control systems, which improve the accuracy and reliability of facial recognition, fingerprint scanning, and iris recognition; thus, making the world safer and more efficient. Within our Industrial process solutions, AI and ML are game changers. They help us predict maintenance needs and detect network leaks using data from analysers and flow meters, ensuring smoother and safer operations. In our Life Analytical and Material Testing division, AI and ML are revolutionising processes to achieve quicker and more accurate results. Beyond implementing these technologies, we are committed to nurturing the next generation with essential skills. Through ATLAB, we partner with schools and universities to introduce practical applications of AI and ML, empowering young minds to contribute to a more sustainable world.

Now that we are almost halfway into 2024, AI and ML remain at the forefront of a global technological revolution that is profoundly impacting the world around us. As per a recent survey, 75 per cent of companies aim to adopt big data analytics, cloud computing, eCommerce, digital trade, and AI technologies between 2023 and 2027, while more than 86 per cent were in favour of adopting digital platforms and apps. According to a report by International Data Corporation (IDC), AI investment in the MENA region is poised to grow at a CAGR of 37 per cent, achieving a valuation of USD 7.2 billion by 2026.

Digital transformation is an integral facet of all our operations, and we aim to revitalise the sectors we serve by harnessing world-class technologies. For instance, we facilitate AI-powered vessel monitoring and security solutions and empower educational institutions by offering AI-based eLearning platforms. Some of our AI-powered access solutions are enhancing the physical security of highly innovative and inspiring projects in the region, while our subsidiary, ATLAB, successfully conducted the first LEGO League in the UAE.

5. What are some of the key challenges and opportunities posed when integrating new technological solutions within traditional industry frameworks?

We have seen first-hand how the integration of new technologies within traditional frameworks can be impacted by system compatibility issues, high implementation costs, employees’ resistance to change, data security gaps and a dearth of technical skills. However, the disadvantages are far outweighed by key benefits such as enhanced efficiency and competitive superiority, which can be achieved through automation and data analytics. Hence, we empower our clients during such transitions, by facilitating advanced technologies, pioneering cutting-edge business models and products to promote sustainability and optimal resource consumption.

6. What is Centena Group’s strategic vision for the next five years?

In the coming years, we aim to expand our market presence, forge strategic partnerships and venture into new market segments, fuelling sustainable growth. In order to achieve these goals, we have outlined initiatives for sustainable sourcing, energy efficiency and community engagement, which will also create lasting value for our clients and employees.

7. Are there any recent projects or upcoming opportunities for expansion that you are particularly excited about?

We recently achieved a significant milestone, with the development of our cutting-edge integration facilities solution ‘IEP’ in Qatar, which is tailored for gas and liquid analysis projects. It’s a one-stop-shop, catering to the diverse needs of analytical businesses, with the capability to analyse a wide variety of liquids and gases, while ensuring system integration.

LABSPACE is yet another exemplary achievement of ours, which is an innovative turnkey laboratory solutions provider, facilitating superior-grade laboratory furnishing solutions for both industrial and commercial purposes. It also boasts an exemplary lineup of laboratory furniture, fume hoods, storage solutions for workstations, and other similar products, all of which are manufactured locally.

8. What are your thoughts on the future of science and technology?

We believe that technology holds the power to drive unprecedented transformation across all industries, bolstered by innovations such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, quantum computing, and renewable energy. While effectively addressing global issues such as climate change, healthcare, and connectivity, they promise breakthroughs in treatments, manufacturing efficiency, and urban living. These advanced technologies, while promising, need to be adopted thoughtfully and responsibly. As the global digital revolution gains momentum, Centena remains rooted in its commitment to harnessing technology to enrich people’s lives.
