Under the patronage of HH the Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the 70th general assembly of the International Air Transport Association IATA will be held in Doha on June 1-3, at the invitation of Qatar Airways.
A statement by Qatar Airways quoted CEO Akbar Al Baker as saying that the event will be an opportunity for promoting Qatar as an important hub for airlines, with the next few months witnessing new developments in the sector, the opening of Hamad International Airport and the expansion of Qatar Airways fleet.
This will be the fourth meeting of the IATA general assembly meeting in the Middle East since it was held in Jordan in 1997.
More than 1000 participants representing world airlines will converge on Doha for the meeting, besides some 200 media representatives.
Qatar Airways has expanded steadily over the past 17 years and currently has a fleet of 134 planes flying to 138 destinations worldwide.
