If you’re looking to start the new year by focusing on your mind, body, and soul and giving back to those in need, then look no further than Six Senses Zighy Bay. For adventure-seekers, love birds, groups of friends and family, or just those looking for a private weekend getaway, Zighy Bay is the perfect natural playground, providing the most wholesome escape.

Located just over two hours away from Dubai, guests can enjoy the leisurely drive from Dubai through to Musandam, amidst the breathtaking Hajar mountains sandy hues of the infamous Arabian desert landscape, before arriving at the resort located within Zighy Bay itself.

Here are 6 remarkable things to look forward to from the moment of arrival:

  1. Choose from two unique arrival rituals

The resort’s notorious warm welcome experience starts from the car itself, where each guest will be given a refreshing lemon and mint concoction  as well as homemade cookies and water produced at the resort. Travellers can quench their thirst whilst driving down an idyllic mountainous road into the resort whilst taking in exquisite views of the bay from above.

Once guests step into the lobby they can enjoy a traditional delicious iced karak before an Omani Host dresses male guests in Massar (traditional Omani head gear) whilst the ladies receive a complimentary henna experience on their hand. The little ones aren’t forgotten, and they can start their Six Senses journey with a sentimental recycled wooden bracelet (the perfect memorabilia to cherish long after their stay).

More adventurous guests can make a grand entrance from 960ft by paragliding into the resort. Nothing can be more memorable than being greeted in the sky by birds, before gently landing on the sandy shores of the resort below.

  • Sense of Oman through a Woman’s Eyes

Guests can now embark on a cultural journey by discovering the way of life of Omani women from the resort’s neighboring town, Dibba. Arriving at the Dibba Women Association, just a 20-minute drive from Six Senses Zighy Bay, travellers are invited to have a hand in culturally crafted experiences – from weaving to coffee blending and pottery decorating. Explore a new culture and learn how to prepare Omani delicacies, which you’ll be able to taste in a traditional Omani breakfast.

Priced at OMR 65 (AED 620), this experience takes place every Monday and Wednesday between 10am – 1pm and allows guests to support the Dibba Women Association firsthand. All proceeds will be put to fund their infrastructure development projects, including facilities for local children.

  • Simply, sleep!

Six Senses has its own Sleep programme, designed to create the optimum sleeping environment, with every guest room set up for the perfect sleep based on counsel from International Sleep Experts and the resort’s own Sleep Ambassadors.

For the perfect wellness break, guests can explore the resort’s natural, organic, hand-made mattresses and cotton bedding, pillow and scent menus, and limited sound and light pollution, resulting in a truly quality sleep.

  • Enjoy an Arabic-style hammam and a session with a visiting practitioner

Travellers deserve to be completely relaxed during every stay, so why not enjoy the award-winning spa at the property?  Sandy paths, towering date palm trees and lime bushes surround this sanctuary of wellness which embraces local healing traditions and celebrates smart technology all under one roof.

To fully immerse oneself in Middle Eastern culture and to ease you into that deep sleep, experience an Arabic-style hammam (meaning ‘spreader of warmth’). The 90-minute Royal Moroccan Hammam which cleanses and nourishes the body, starts with a steam and body wash with a black soap enriched with eucalyptus essential oil. The body is then exfoliated on a heated marble bed and swathed with a detoxifying and exfoliating body balm, before the application of hair strengthening oil, a face and foot treatment, followed by a gentle massage and the application of hydrating body milk.

The resort also always encourages guests to book appointments with visiting practitioners (who are true experts within their respective wellness fields).

Between the January 20th – February 14th, 2023, why not have a consultation with Suraj Varma, an Ancient Ayurvedic Bliss expert? He first learned about the healing and positive energy of Ayurveda from his family, who have been Ayurvedic practitioners for many generations in Kerala, and will be offering a series of curated treatments including Kerala Karma, Ayurvedic Deep Tissue Massage, Marma Detox & Immune Booster and Ayurvedic Holistic Balancing.

  • Dine at Sense on the Edge

Perched on a private terrace and set to a stunning backdrop, the resort’s signature award-winning restaurant sits 293 meters above the azure waters of Zighy Bay, overlooking the magnificent Omani landscape. Serving a Kaiseki style dinner, Sense on the Edge tells the story of Executive Chef Sébastien Pinson’s culinary journey and personal travels from land to sea. The restaurant draws on French technique yet replicates Asian flavors, where each plate is carefully curated with the freshest, locally sourced ingredients and filled with rich flavors. The “Hotate” offers Kombu curried Muscat scallops blended with sustainable caviar, the “Kinoko” gives the smooth texture of mushrooms and potato mousseline fused with soy and balsamic, while the “Tara” offers roasted sustainable cod imbued with miso glaze and khao mun.

  • Connect with nature through experiences with a purpose

The Six Senses brand is wildly recognized for its commitment to sustainability, establishing the initial benchmarks for the hospitality industry in its obligation to the environment. At Zighy Bay, guests can support and learn more about the cause with the resort’s own Sustainability Manager at Earth lab and try making their own eco-soap and shampoo, not to mention candles, deodorant, and gifts for loved ones.

Guests can also visit the resort’s very own Dibba Farm which has a lush organic farm complete with greenhouses and an orchard and irrigation system. Hand-feed the goats and jersey cows or go egg hunting in the luxury chicken coop before wandering the rows of fruits and vegetables (and make sure to sample straight from the vine)! Hold onto your nose as Zighy Bay’s hosts take you through their very own cheese making facility and demonstrate how cheese is made. The resort’s expert culinary team will also prepare a unique and private dining experience at the farm for guests upon request. A hint – fuel up with breakfast for energy!
