Abu Dhabi-based place-maker and developer IMKAN says that the simultaneous construction of its seven Pixel Towers on Reem Island, with three towers launched to date, represents its promise of providing only the very best living environments for its customers.
The completion of the concrete substructure for the seven-storey buildings that are progressively becoming a landmark on the Reem Island skyline, is an important milestone for the development, which is taking shape at IMKAN’s Makers District – the UAE’s newest mixed-use hub that is expected to prove a magnet for creatives, entrepreneurs, innovators, and those with a strong sense of individualism.
IMKAN highlights its commitment to placemaking and community engagement as the driving force behind its decision to build all seven Pixel Towers at once, while handed over in a staged phase. The company says that rather than making the first set of homebuyers live in a building site, they are instead dedicated to completing the community and its spaces in between to encourage vibrancy as soon as owners take possession of their new homes. It adds that due to the company reaching key construction milestones at an unprecedented rate, it has witnessed an increase in sales and is therefore gearing up to launch a fourth tower on the market.
“Pixel has been designed as a first-choice destination amid a vibrant neighborhood – home to a community of entrepreneurs and those with a millennial mindset. At IMKAN, we are committed to ensuring that as soon as our residents’ keys turn in their doors, they have everything they need – both in their homes and in their outside community. We are delighted with the progress being made with Pixel and with this important construction milestone,” said Walid El Hindi, CEO of IMKAN Properties.
Once complete, the Pixel development will be home to 525 contemporary apartments ranging from studios to three-bedroom options. Alongside the residential offering will be 94 boutique office units and 14 retail outlets, with the entire seven-tower community designed in partnership with the award-winning Dutch architectural firm MVRDV. A central focal point of the development is its pedestrianized plaza, which has been designed by Copenhagen-based architectural firm BIG. The scheme encompasses the concept of ‘walkability’ and the serendipitous outcomes that are often the result of chance encounters.
Located on a prime stretch of Reem Island’s picturesque waterfront, Makers District is a short distance from some of the city’s much-loved artistic landmarks, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, the latter of which is planned to open in 2022
Pixel is the first phase of Makers District, which is due for completion in 2021. The masterplan also includes a boutique hotel, further residential options (totaling 3,700 units across the development), F&B outlets and co-working spaces within the thriving creative community. IMKAN’s unique approach, prioritizing negative spaces (such as communal parks, paths and parking) before positive spaces allows for an ergonomic community-based design which interlinks the various components of their projects. Through in-depth research, IMKAN puts human experience – both for guests and residents – at the core of all their developments.
